refresh. relax. renew.
Today is the Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year. In New Hampshire the Summer Solstice is something we all crave during the middle of winter when darkness comes early and the days often seem too short to accomplish goals. The long days of summer bring new energy. The warm sun and long days are an invitation to explore new trails, to go barefoot through the soft grass, and to play in the cool waters of the rivers and lakes.
For me this summer solstice begins with short runs. Remembering the feeling of running and finding my inner balance through each step. I am also taking a personal journey to dealing with the depression that has been a lingering cloud in the years since my kids were born. Somehow I am able to radiate positive energy to others while masking my own inner turmoil. I have finally gotten back to a point in my life where I am feeling more inner peace, quiet and happiness. It has been an up and down journey and the emotional balancing act can be delicate.
Along with all my running goals I want to develop a plan to “refresh,” an attempt to remove the sense of chaos that can be overwhelming.
1. Go to sleep earlier in order to take advantage of the early hours of the day.
2. Go for more walks.
3. Explore new trails, lakes and mountains in New Hampshire.
4. No more dependence on anti-depressants.
5. Take time for quiet meditation.
So here goes . . . refresh. relax. renew.
